Motifs
We specialise in using nature and wildlife themed motifs to decorate items where appropriate.
These motifs are hand-drawn and then embossed and painted with leather dye to bring out the details. The process we follow is outlined below. We love designing new ones and are happy to make items bespoke. Please use our contact form if you would like something customised for you.
- First the design is sketched out on paper. This is then transferred to the leather.
- Next the design is etched in using a sharp tooling knife.
- Once the design is clear enough, the leather is moistened and the details picked out using special embossing tools.
- The motif is then carefully painted using leather highlighting dyes. This means that each motif is unique, even if it's one that’s been done before.
- Finally, as part of finishing a product, a waterproof coating is added. For bags and purses this is usually a combination of natural oils and beeswax that is rubbed into the leather. For coasters a thin polymer coating is sprayed on as this provides more protection against drink marks.
